A Little Bit About FCHC

So What is FCHC?

This is a blog (and store) created because I noticed that there was a gap in the homeschool community. In my many, many hundreds of hours of research, I have scoured the internet for websites with pagan homeschooling resources and/or curricula (since this is my belief system), but such a thing did not seem to exist. I have also searched for secular homeschooling resources, and although there are blogs and curricula out there, there are still not many. I decided that I couldn’t be the only one out there scouring the internet for resources, so I decided to create FCHC, a blog, and curricula for anyone looking for homeschooling resources that diverge from the vast majority of resources out there.

This blog is a place where I share resources and ideas for any homeschooling parents who want to cultivate their child's innate sense of wonder for the world around them. For the most part, all the resources that I share here are either in alignment with my spiritual beliefs or are secular. However, I feel that everyone has the right to a love of learning, so I also share resources for anyone of any belief system.

All the curricula that I make are intended as guides, not strict manuals, so if you disagree with anything or want to change anything, I highly recommend you do so for your family. I draw inspiration from educational philosophies that prioritize the child, such as, but not limited to, the Wild Schooling philosophy, Waldorf philosophy, Charlotte Mason philosophy, and the Unschooling philosophy. Basically, my main priority is making learning fun and engaging so that kids love learning. If any of this resonates with you, then please stick around! I would love to have you!

Who Am I?

I am incredibly passionate about equality for everyone and have grown up attending marches and doing everything in my power to educate myself on different people all over the world. As someone who identifies as a female in a male-centered society, as a member of the queer community in a society where sis heterosexuality is the norm, and as someone who believes in a very stigmatized belief system, I think that everyone should learn to respect everyone, no matter who they are.

I am a woman who identifies as pagan, for lack of a better word, and wants to share that love of the natural world with my future daughters. I have wanted to be homeschooled for as long as I can remember, but, aside from my preschool years, have never got the chance to make that dream a reality. However, that dream, as well as the many hundreds of hours of research I have done on education, formed this love for homeschooling within me. Now, I am very passionate about homeschooling and have done a whole lot of research on how children learn and the many different philosophies of education.

Currently, I live in the state of California with my family, but I also love to travel the world whenever I have the chance to meet different people and learn about their cultures. That being said, any and all are welcome here.

What Does Being “Pagan” Mean to Me?

Since I mentioned that I identify as pagan, which is an umbrella term, I might as well explain what I mean by that since I intend to create both secular and pagan curricula. For as long as I can remember, my mother has taught me to love and appreciate the natural world: all the elements, animals, and plants. She taught me that everything was connected through universal energy and that I could use that energy for good. I am aware that many people believe in a god, goddess, or pantheon, but that is not my tradition. Instead, I believe in a great spirit that connects all living things and tends to have a wicked sense of humor. I call myself a witch because I think of it as my own little way of reclaiming the lives of so many innocent women who have been unjustly killed over the years.
